You are covered from head to toe with it so why not look after it? Your skin is an organ and the largest organ of your body! There are many functions of your skin;
1)Protection: the outer layer is bactericidal helping to prevent multiplication of germs.
It protects your underlying organs from injury
It provides a waterproof coating through its natural oil (SEBUM) which lubricates the skin keeping it naturally moisturized and waterproof and preventing it from dehydration
Skin contains MELANIN which is what gives you your PIGMENT or colour and melanin absorbs the harmful rays of Ultraviolet (UV) light
2) Heat regulation: Heat that is lost through the skin and by sweating is controlled via body temperature
3) Elimination or excretion: Waste products such as water and salt are eliminated through the surface of the skin
Skin gives us the sense of feeling such as touch, pain, pressure and hot and cold
Our skin also provides storage for fat and gives us an energy reserve. Our skin produces Vitamin D which is essential in our maintenance. It is produced through a chemical reaction when our skin is exposed to natural sunlight. This is why our nails and hair look so fab in the summer months!!
Your skin is your main weapon in a lot of things it is what gives you your external appearance, it protects you from head to toe as mentioned above, so why not give something back to it and prolong its life, it will help you in the long run as it will help keep you looking more youthful!!
A few tips on skin care and maintenance
1. Ensure you cleanse your skin, especially your face twice a day, morning and night. Your face is always exposed to the environment. You have a shower everyday so why not clean your face properly. The amount of dirt and pollution it accumulates during the day is astonishing and half of it reaches your face the second you have left your front door in the morning!! Free radicals are hitting your face this very moment.
2. Always apply a facial moisturizer after cleansing. A lot of people think if their face is oily they do not need a moisturizer, when in actual fact they do. Every skin produces oil and if you are not maintaining sebum (oil levels) your oil glands will actually over produce, resulting in an even oilier face. There are different types of facial moisturizers on the market that are specifically targeted at oily skins.
REMEMBER, WITH SKIN CARE WHAT YOU PAY FOR IS THE RESULTS YOU WILL SEE AND A GOOD SKIN CARE ROUTINE SHOULD BE PARAMOUNT IN YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE.
