Common causes of Back Pain

Most back pain are the result of repeated physical stress or on going conditions. Pain can occur anywhere along the back, but mostly in the lower back.

Back pain can be caused from weak muscles, being overweight or poor posture. Lack of exercise, weigh gain and bad posture can put your back’s natural curves out of alignment causing physical stress and increase the back problems.Lifting, bending and twisting or sitting or standing wrong or sitting in one place too long can cause back pain.

Herniated disk is when a disk bulges or breaks. The disk may press on a spinal nerve and can cause pain in the arms or legs and can cause numbness. Sciatica is a pinching or irritation of the sciatic nerve that often causes pain that runs down the lower back and down one leg.

Emotional stress can cause you tension or pressure and can cause the back muscles to tense, which can cause pain or muscle spasms.

Here are a few tips on relieving the pain. Use the cold treatment first. Use a cold pack or ice bag on the area as soon as possible. Never use ice directly on your skin. Wrap it in a towel first. Keep the cold pack or ice bag on the area for about 5 to 10 minutes. Do this several times a day.

After a couple days, apply heat. I have found a rice bag is good. Put it in the microwave for a minute or so and put it on the sore area. You could also use a heating pad, hot water bottle or a towel heated in hot water. Apply the heat for about 5 to 10 minutes. Do this a few times a day.
